Does Organic Always Mean Healthier?
Although finding natural and organic foods has become easier over the years, the ingredients added into them in order to maximize shelf life and stabilize the taste remain a challenge.
Having sufficient supply of high quality ingredients at reasonable costs is a major concern for many companies. However, problems are also with the efficacy of ingredients and their quality.
Such technical challanges are giving companies enormous formulation challenges. Therefore, task of formulating products are made easy by emulsifiers, stabilizers and preservatives.
We will give an example from our own case below.
We would like to share recent issues that we have faced with our suppliers. Due to nature of our business, we use kefir grains to ferment best possible kefirs in Australia. This allow us to determine the quality of the milk that we are using naturally. Recently, some companies that we work with have changed their recipes of their plant based milks.Even if, they are still organic, the products we bought can not be fermented by the kefir grains. Something inside this new formulas were blocking or killing the bacteria. Therefore, we had to find new suppliers without any nasties in it. It was really big challange for us. These organic products sold everywhere in Australia but the good ones are rare. These products harm the kefir grains (bacteria) and they don’t let them survive , imagine what they could do your microbiome when you consume them.
To conclude, we would like to emphasize the importance of quality product without any nasties. Even buying everything certified organic may not be the best for you. It should be natural and fresh as well.
